ALL FAITHS FOODBANK - FRIENDSGIVING

I chose this project for it’s opportunity for social impact and the companies positive effect on my community in Sarasota. I created 3 animations, in 2 formats each, to bring attention to one of their events. In the end, I chose Friendsgiving.

Style Explorations

I started by going into the given assets and familiarizing myself with their current branding. I generated three concepts. The second one, ‘All Hands In’ was chosen.

RIGS

Once All Hands In was chosen I started on the ‘hands’. There was some initial problems that needed meeting and revising in after this first pass. I decided to change the hands to abstracted colors (reds, blues, etc), this abstraction of the skin tones had greater potential for inclusivity and greater contrast with the yellows and browns of my background palette. Next, the sleeves on my hands needed to be adjusted, to come up to the wrist to enhance the clarity of the design— making the hand’s more clearly hands. With those fixed I needed to consolidate my designs onto a rig so I could reuse it for each animation.

BACKGROUNDS

Refining the background was a process and was mostly focused on contrast and negative space. The high saturated yellow of my first background didn’t give the typography enough contrast and swallowed the orange of the heart logo. While the assets where laid out to conservatively and left too much negative space and the impression of an empty table.

ANIMATIONS

My first shot was the toughest and indicative of the whole. The initial idea was lacking in character wasn’t capitalizing on the chance to demonstrate my animation principles. I added more came at it again with a different action, more of a bend to make the arm feel natural, and more overlap. Though I really needed to push the anticipation and the easing to nail down the motion.
